Welcome to the Zhou Power Lab at The Ohio State University! Our group explores the fundamental theory and novel applications of high-performance power electronics. Power electronics connect, convert, and control different forms of electrical energy, forming the critical interfaces between electricity generation, storage, and consumption. Advances in power electronics are essential to nearly every electrified aspect of modern society, including electric vehicles, data center computing, wireless communications, and the electric grid.
Our work seeks to improve the speed, energy efficiency, size, and reliability of power electronics by investigating new components, circuits, and control. Our specialty is the design of high-frequency, highly multiplexed power converters and magnetics for wide-bandwidth applications such as plasma generation, data centers, and wireless communications. We take an interdisciplinary approach by applying circuit design, mathematical modeling, electromagnetic simulations, control theory, thermal management, and more. Our goal is to fundamentally improve power electronics and contribute to a more electrified and energy-efficient future!
We are actively seeking 2-3 PhD students for the Fall 2027 semester! Click here for instructions on how to apply.
